Aesa Fredriksen was a part of the Bering Sea no matter how much she fought against it.  Time and space could not keep her from returning home to her father and sea that had taken so much from her.  Her mother who walked into the frigid water and never returned.  Her father that captained his own boat and left her feeling abandoned and angry.  Blaming her father for her mothers death, she ran to Ohio and entered medical school.

Nine years later, Aesa returns home to see her father and start her internship at an emergency room in an Anchorage hospital.  Time and life at sea had not been kind to her father, but it allowed her to mature and see things in a new light.  She agrees to accompany him and his crew out on a crap run in hopes of spending time with him, but what she experiences is beyond her expectations.

Decker, her fathers trusted deck hand, exuded wisdom and strength beyond her understanding became very protective of Aesa on the boat.  As she worked along side the men, Decker was never far insuring her safety.  An electricity crackling between them. When a hurricane heads straight for the boat, an ultimate act of selflessness will cement those emotions.

' "I'm not going anywhere, Aesa." '  His words resonated with a strength and certainty that could only come from a deep-seated conviction based on truth. ' "I am a man. I don't run. I don't lie. I don't cheat, and I don't use.  I don't find enjoyment in games, either.  I have paid for my mistakes in life and learned from them.  I know what I want, Aesa, and I want you.  Nothing more. Nothing less." '  He pressed his mouth against mine again but harder, the pressure illustrating the truth behind his words and his desperation for them to register.  ' " Disappointment and sadness don't have to be you life anymore.  You can choose to have more," ' he whispered, his head hanging just above me.  "You can choose me." '

Life seems to be going well...great boyfriend, reconciling with her father, promising medical career, until a boating accident tips Aesa's life upside down. RUN and run far, building those walls back up around her heart, but what is meant to be will  always find a way.

I thoroughly fell in love with this story.  The characters were deep and multi-facted.  Absolutely loved this book. The author showed she took the time to research the fishing/crab industry and the tight knit family bond felt my those who live and breath life on the sea. Aesa's fears almost ruin everything instead of overcoming them.  Decker showed a quiet strength and wisdom that made him even more sexy...if that is possible!  I didn't want this story to end.  A sweet love story with enough intensity to hold your attention to the last page!

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Undertow by Amber Lynn Natusch

How far does a girl have to run to escape a lifetime of pain and loss at the hands of Alaska's notoriously unforgiving Bering Sea? Twenty-seven-year-old Aesa Fredriksen thought landlocked Columbus, Ohio would suffice, and it does until the fear of regret drives her to return to Dutch Harbor in a final attempt to make amends with her nearly-estranged father. Intent on salvaging the wreckage of their relationship, she reluctantly agrees to join him—the only family she has left—as he heads out to fish for king crab, forcing her to brave the very waters that pulled him away from her as a child. The waters that stole her mother's life.
When the day finally arrives for the Norwegian Queen to sail off into an uncertain future, Aesa can't help but fear the worst. Beyond the violent swells and impending storms, there is far more than death and danger awaiting her on her journey: love awaits her too.

Decker, a young but seasoned member of her father's crew, is a force of nature as strong as Aesa, He's her perfect match, and even she can't deny it. But he too is a man of the sea, and with memories of tragedy and abandonment etched so deeply into her mind, can she overcome her demons and let him in or will she drown in her darkness, forever caught in its undertow?
The room was dark and quiet except for the wind that had picked up outside, the howling noise whipping against the cheap windows. The threadbare curtains danced with the slight breeze that infiltrated the casing, moving them gently. The light they allowed to penetrate the room fell on Decker's body, highlighting him in a glorious way. His back was naked and the shadows that were cast by his musculature begged to be touched and traced. My breath caught in my throat as I stared at his sleeping form. His rugged beauty was impossible to deny, but with it came a sensitive side that balanced it beautifully. He was all a woman could have wanted—a woman that was ready to give herself to someone fully.
I was not that female.

Two key songs for all major scenes in this book:
"Never Let Me Go" Florence and the Machine
"Take Care" Drake featuring Rihanna

Valerie might have thought she and Brad were inevitable and maybe, in the back of his mind, Brad might have felt that way too, but he didn’t just sit around waiting for her. See the secret side of Brad that you had no idea existed. What kept the driving force behind Fully Automatic focused even while his heart was breaking?

That was when it was time to make his move. He let the confident feeling surge through his veins, and he stepped closer to her, close enough to touch her. “That’s not the main reason why I came back here, though.” He waited a few seconds to let his words register with her and then he said, “We have a little unfinished business.”
She seemed so innocent in that moment. “We do?”
Yes, innocent maybe, but not unwilling. He leaned over and took her face in his hands, lifting her lips to his. He kissed her, as gently as he could allow himself to, but, goddamn, it was difficult. He’d been imagining this moment for months now, and he wanted her badly. Way too badly. Fuck. He should have jerked off in the shower, because controlling himself was going to be harder than usual. Would losing his load have helped? He didn’t know, but he had to stop thinking about that right now.
It was hard, though, because she tasted so sweet, and her response was just as he’d imagined. She parted her lips and took him in. Yeah, she was willing and eager, and all that did was fuel his fire. She was feeling it too, that weird attraction between them igniting into something bigger than he’d expected, something he knew he’d be lucky to control. Still…he kept his breathing (and his cock) under control for the meantime and ended the kiss. Oh, fuck. And she placed her hands on his pecs as though to steady herself. It took her a few seconds to open her eyes, as though she’d been transported. When he had her full attention, he said, “Unfinished, right?”
She gave him a tiny smile, sweet and na├»ve, and seemed to give the tiniest of nods. Well, she wasn’t pushing him away. In fact, she seemed breathless and expectant. He wasn’t going to disappoint her, so he kissed her again, and he would have sworn it was magic. Okay, so he never would have said something like that to one of his friends. Ethan would have called him a pussy if he’d even known Brad had been thinking something like that. But it was, though—it was more than just a kiss. It felt like they deepened their connection in that moment, like he could see inside her soul and, yes, she was pure and light and everything he could ever want.
He knew her response was a sign to move forward, so he wrapped his hands around her waist and pulled her close. Fuckin’ A. She smelled so goddamn good and felt so right up next to him. She moved her hands onto his neck and then slid them up into his hair, driving him insane. Jesus…he wanted to fuck her right there, but he knew a girl like Val would need finesse. And he wanted to give that to her. He wanted her to know she wasn’t just a cheap lay for him. Still, he wanted to move the proceedings forward, so he slid his hands down to her ass, using it as an excuse to press her harder into his body.
And her fingers in his hair. Shit. She was driving him fucking crazy.
Her breathing got deeper, so he knew he was on the right track. He couldn’t hold it back anymore and just let the blood flow straight to his cock…like he’d be able to stop it anyway. He moved his lips to her neck and not only did she let out a sigh, he could have sworn he heard a moan. Fuck, yeah. He didn’t know that a girl had ever done that before they’d actually engaged in the real deal. He moved a hand up underneath her shirt, feeling the bare skin above her jeans, and he heard her breathing quicken again.
It was then, though, that she took a hand out of his hair and placed it firmly on his chest. No. Fuck, no. If he was reading her right, she was putting on the brakes.
“Brad…please stop.”
He opened his eyes and looked in hers. “Stop?”
Why was she changing her mind? Was that really what she wanted? He had to try one more time. He kissed her again. Yeah, there were those sparks. Could she deny them? “Stop that?”
She blinked. “Yes.”
“You don’t seem so sure…” He pressed his forehead on hers and bore into her eyes with his. He wanted to understand. “What’s wrong?”
She moved both hands to his chest. She wasn’t pressing against him as if to push him away, but they seemed to ground her. “I…It’s not you, Brad. Oh, God, it’s not you. I swear. I want you bad.”
That’s what he’d thought. “So why not? If you’re worried about birth control…” He wasn’t going to be irresponsible. She had to know that.
She hesitated. “No. I’m…um… I’m a…”
“Virgin?” He knew it even before she nodded her head. “Oh.” He nodded too as if to process the information. “Oh. Yeah. Uh…your first time should be…special, right? At least, for girls. I didn’t give much of a shit.” He didn’t know how to do that for her, not right now, anyway. He was nearly out of his mind with desire, and she was pulling the plug. He needed a bathtub of ice water to jump in. She giggled and, in spite of his feelings of desperation, he found it endearing. But then it dawned on him. Fuck. He had to know. As much as it was gonna hurt, he needed to know. Her eyes all but said it, but he needed to confirm it. “That’s not it, though. It’s Ethan, isn’t it? You still care about him.” She didn’t say a word. She didn’t need to. It was written all over her face…

When Bullet ended, I was truly happy for Brad and Val.  Ethan had his demons to slay in Rock Bottom. Now, we crawl inside Brad's head and revisit all those heartbreaking moments between Val and Ethan when Brad was the "good friend".  Things seemed so much more exasperating for me as Brad dealt with Ethan, trying to make Fully Automatic a success and burying his emotions for Val.  Always "The Friend", Brad was there to pick the pieces time and time again for Ethan.

This book cemented by emotions for Brad.  He tried and tried to stay away, but sometimes you just can't avoid certain situations. The feelings that Brad felt were so much more reading them from his point of view.  I was angry and frustrated.  Brad worked so hard to make the band a success and deserved to be happy. His random booty calls were empty and hallow. Living with them was rough and lying awake at night listening to the go at it was hell.   He loved her so much, but she was blinded by her devotion to Ethan and Brad did the best thing he could....stepped away.

I definitely would have to say that the last 30% of the book was my favorite and the epilogue!  I love Daddy Brad and Chris.  He loved him as his own.  Brad and Ethan were best friends. However, Ethan and Val were poisonous and no one was going to make it out alive if they continued on the path they were on.

I love Jade and her books.  She loves her readers and is very interactive with them on Facebook.  Truly a heavy metal momma. Jade supports and promotes up and coming musicians avidly and that makes her a awesome lady in my book! Congrats to Jade on her success with the Bullet Series and all her future books!

Blog Tour: Finding Me by S.K. Hartley

The lines are blurred between what is real and what isn't, the darkness that was once a place I feared was now a place of safety. If I stayed in the darkness, the hellish reality of what was truly happening no longer seemed real.

But I was about to be pulled out from under the consuming blanket of dark shadows, and plunged into the murky depths of my past. I was about to be shown my demons and all it's evil sides, all of it's pain and grief. I could only hope I survive it.

What happens when the world you once knew crumbles and falls at your feet?

Who will find me? Who will save me from my demons?

My dark prince or my white knight...

And will I find myself in the process.

"Neva, don't walk away from me!" Logan spits.

He is angry.  What right did he have to be angry with me? I wasn't the one flirting with another girl. Why was he even here anyway? "Go away, Logan!" I say, walking faster.

Suddenly my arms are latched to my back and I am being spun around. My heartbeat picks up around twenty notches as I come eye to eye with Logan.

"Why the hell are you always running from me? I can't take it when you run from me!"

"I'm not doing this now. Let me go." I say, trying to get my wrist free from his grasp.

"No, we are doing this now. Why the hell did you run?"

"We're all running from something, Logan." I spit, repeating Dex's words.

"You still don't get it do you? How much clearer do I need to be for you to understand that I'm not going anywhere? I have been in love with you for ten years, Neva! Ten years. It isn't just going to go away!"

"I never asked you to love me! Why are you doing this to me?" "Because I hate seeing you fall and not get back up. I want to be the one to catch you, but you keep pushing me away!"

"What do you want from me?" I whisper.

"You. Just you. All of you. Every broken piece."

I bow my head. He releases my wrists from behind my back, and they drop to my side. I can't give him what he wants. I just can't do it. I will break him. Christ, I break myself on a daily basis.

"I can't give you that." I say, taking a step back.

"I'm not giving you up without a fight, Neva. You can't just walk away from us!"

"I am protecting you the only way I know how."

"I don't need protecting. What part of me looks like it needs protecting?"

"Your heart." I whisper. I gulp back the tears that were begging to release. I would not cry. But every time I pushed back that feeling, it hurt just a little bit more.

"You're breaking it right now." He whispers, taking a step towards me.

"I will break it over and over again, Logan. My nightmares will hurt you, my fear of people being ripped away from me will gut you, and my anxiety will spike yours."

"I can take pain, Neva. I had dealt with it for the past three weeks. I would rather have the pain with you, than without you."

"I … I." The words are at the tip of my tongue. Waiting to release, but I know if I say them, everything will change. Nothing will be the same and I will drag him into the pit of hell where my heart lies and my nightmares are real.

"I can't."

Review: Finding Me by S.K. Hartley

Finding Me (The Bad Boy Series)
By: S.K. Hartley
Genre: Contemporary Romance, violence, angst
Release: January 26,2014
167 pages
~*~This book was given to me in trade for an honest review~*~
S.K. Hartley picks right up where she left us in Finding You.  Neva bound and gagged at the hands of Angel's father, Jack, as he brutalizes her physically and emotionally with a twisted tale of his own making centered around her father.  As he shares the root of his hatred for her father and ultimately Angel himself, she understands more about the man she thought she loved.
Realizing that she has her cell in her pocket, Neva calls the one man who said he would always protect her...Logan.  Using a wayward knife to free herself, Neva places her phone on the floor and sneaks up behind Jack catching him off guard with the knife to his throat.  Praying that Logan was on the line, she yells out the address and fights for her life.  If she thought surviving this attack was simple, what lie ahead  would stir up every doubt, every guilty emotion and leave her gapping wide open.
Neva and Logan are two selfish and selfless lovers.  One not wanting to hurt the other, they push each other away only to wither and die apart.  Their love and need for each other was second to protecting the other from themselves.  Ugh....these two abused my heart!  They only want what is best for the other even if it means walking away.  The darkness that clouded their eyes and hearts blinded them from the only thing that could save them....each other.
Their love is visceral and consuming.  One minute you're crying for them, then the next you want to yell. They needed a little help from Tate and Lowe to realize that what they were doing to each other was affecting more that just them.  The author grabbed me with the first chapter and didn't let go until the last page.  I cannot wait for Tate and Low's story next.
