Author Interview: Z Allora

RomFan Reviews would like to welcome Z Allora today as she is promoting her latest release, The Great Wall, her new M/M release.  I couldn't help but throw in a couple silly questions.  Z is such a sweetheart and a joy to work with on this tour.  RomFan wishes you much success in the future.

Tell us about your current release and the inspiration behind it?

I lived in Suzhou China for six years and there was no gay in China. It is statistically impossible but the belief is 'gay' is a Western concept.

What is your next upcoming story about?

Jun "Styx" Wong's heart and mind battle to determine his destiny. His mind tells him to be a good Chinese son and marry the girl his parents chose, but his heart longs for his best friend, Jin, and life with their new band. "Jun" means honesty, but he's not even honest with himself. A quest to eradicate his feelings for Jin nearly ends his life.

Styx's near death serves as a wake-up call for Jin, whose blond hair--legacy of his German father--marks him as different. Jin harbors secrets of his own. His experiences prepare him to take the drastic measures needed to help Jun overcome the walls surrounding them.

Because there is no gay in China…

Who is your favorite character that you have written?

That's an unfair question. That's like asking which child a parent loves more. I adore each of my characters. If I focus on Made in China, I knew people like Styx who decided if they didn't acknowledge their sexual orientation it somehow vanished. Styx can't even see his best friend loves and wants him… bad. His unlikely friend, Indigo the keyboard/composer is from LA so he experiences China the way I did. He has a lot of shock and distress I had living in a place so different than the USA.  But each of my characters are a part of me and I can't help myself I love them all.

Do you have any particular writing rituals? Favorite fuzzy slippers? Coffee cup at the 3:00 position on your desk?

My housework, errands and e-mails must be done or I can't focus. I sit on a couch with an ice bag on my neck (to relieved a pinched nerve) and my tea… I have to have tea. It can be Snapple (diet peach) or Awake Tazo or Roibosh Vanilla but it hasn't to be tea.

I need quiet or a buzz of conversation I can't quite make out.

When you have an opportunity to read what is your favorite? Who are your favorite authors?

I love hot rockers and BDSM and Yaoi. Based on that you can figure out my favorites, but there are so many wonderful authors in this genre I read everyone or at least I have most of their stories captured into my iPod/Kindle in cue waiting for me to read.

What do your friends and family think of your books?

Some are crazy proud and every conversation revolves around my 'boys'. I've lost a long time friend and some of my family are shall we say less than pleased. Most are supportive and a bit curious. My advocacy for equality has assisted some members of my family to clarify their own feelings.

Plain vs Peanut M&M's?

Plain… though I'd rather a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

Do you like your men in boxers vs briefs?

Commando actually… but if I have to pick briefs… thinking about it none of my guys wear boxers.
