RomFan would like to welcome Taylor V. Donovan, on tour promoting Disasterology 101, her latest release. Here are some fun and
interesting tidbits about Taylor and her writing. Don't forget to comment with your email to win!
How did you come to prefer writing M/M stories?
Men and women have it easier when it comes to falling in love, whereas the road to romantic happiness can be tough and bumpy for gay men. Before they can meet someone and fall in love they have to come to terms with their sexual orientation, come out, deal with people’s reaction to who they are, and so on, and so forth. I like the idea of giving gay couples a happy ending. It’s what inspires me the most.
Where do you find your storyline motivation?
The characters motivate me. Once they shape up in my head and start developing on paper, there’s no stopping them. They have a story to share,
and they count on me to tell it for them.
Do you outline your story first or do you let your characters set to pace?
I do a general outline but am always flexible to the characters’ voice and development. Sometimes they want to go places I didn’t expect, and the journey is always exhilarating.
Do you have any writing rituals?
I need to cast before I start writing. I can’t possibly work with a character if I don’t know who he is and what he looks like.
What do you hope your readers take with them from your books?
Faith in love and human nature, and hope that no matter how difficult life gets, things usually work out in the end.
In your free time (hehe), what type of books do you like to read? Who is your favorite author?
I read M/M romance almost exclusively, but more than having favorite authors I’d say I have favorite tropes. Enemies to lovers… closeted guys… I like emotionally taxing storylines.
Taylor, thanks so much for taking time today to chat. It was great to have you!
