Looking for a new start in life, Lacey Benoit moved to California when her best friend Zoe convinces her to move and interview for an opening with the San Diego Scorpions Hockey Team.  Zoe is the team psychiatrist doing research on concussions and depression in the players.  Leaving behind her parents, and memories of her dead brother and failed engagement, Lacey heads west with high hopes of fun in the sun until she meets the Scorpions new enforcer, Jody LaGrange.

Jody is not like his other team mates who indulge on a frequent diet of puck bunnies.  So when he arrives for his initial evaluation with Zoe, Jody bumps into a hung-over, pant less Lacy sparks ignite.  Jody quickly breaks down her walls, but when her past resurfaces with he will protect what is his.  Lacey quickly learns the meaning of family as the Scorpions rally around them with love and support.

Nikki did an awesome job depicting the camaraderie between team mates linking their families together.   Jody and Lacey’s sexual slow burn smoldered until neither could resist another moment without the other.  Jody showed his alpha behavior, but Lacey’s strong female characteristics were the perfect balance.  I can’t wait for the next book with Zoe and Vlad.  Now theirs is going to be a complicated story line, but Nikki won’t leave us wanting for anything it.
