Talathion grew up knowing his duty was to his clan, and was proud to serve those he cared about.  His only regret was Hervé, a dragonkin he met in his youth.  The memory of the one kiss they shared has kept him going all these long, cold years while trapped in his duty.  When he's abruptly released from those duties, Hervé is there to nurse him back to health.  This time they're both adults, and the lust and attraction they once had can no longer be denied.  But Talathion knows this reprieve is only temporary, and once his magic has recharged he must once again take up the mantel of duty, even if it means leaving the one person he's ever cared about behind.

As a dragonkin, Hervé never allows love into the mixture.  But something about Talathion calls to him on a primal level, one he cannot ignore.  He begins to understand why his brethren shun the emotion, because the thought of losing Talathion again is more than he can bear.  He vows to do whatever it takes to release his lover from his duties.  And in the meantime, enjoy every luscious inch of the man before duty separates them, possibly forever.

This was one of the most powerful love stories I've read in a long time.  The depth of devotion and love these two have for each other is staggering.  Talathion is bound by duty to his clan, and although Hervé is loathe to let him go when the time comes, he also realizes he can't change fate, although he intends to try.  The utter helplessness these two feel at times took my breath away, and I actually found myself tearing up towards the end when they're saying their goodbyes.  (That's as close as I can get without giving anything away, sorry)  This was a powerful, emotionally compelling book that will stay with me for a long time to come.
