How do you keep your
stories fresh and new in the popular genre of romance?
First, attitude! I’m
feeling fresh and new these days. I’ve been writing and traditionally
publishing romances under another name, in another genre, for several years and
am fast approaching 20 books published. I wanted to try something different, so
my alter-ego Sorcha Grace was born and I wrote my first contemporary erotic
romance, A TASTE OF YOU. So fun! Truthfully, I feel a little like Clark
Kent/Superman: a dual identity barely concealed by dorky black-rimmed glasses
and just a quick change in a phone booth away from revealing my true self
(which I guess is Superman…or SuperSorcha?).
Overall, a totally
fresh and new experience for me and it’s been great.
Regardless of the
romance genre, great characters are what make a story fresh and new. A
TASTE OF YOU fits squarely in to an incredibly popular genre and I’d go so far
as to call “billionaire romance” a genre in itself. So I dug deep for
inspiration for my characters and looked to things I enjoy in my own life for
the story…like great food…high-end appliances…chocolate. I started with
the idea of a couple who came together because of food and who then explored
the sensual side of it together while exploring each other. Taste is a very
powerful sense and it plays an important role in Cat and William’s story. Yes,
my hero William is a rich and powerful billionaire with some tragedy in his
past, but he is also a gourmand in the truest sense, he’s an accomplished cook,
he owns a vineyard, and he invests in restaurants and chefs as a
hobby. Other than his Alpha-ness (which is on the milder side), he isn’t
anything like Christian, Gideon, Gabriel, or Damien. In fact, William is a bit
of a cream puff on the inside – a sinfully delicious cream
puff – as readers will come to find out. Admittedly, William
might share some similar attributes with one of the dashing male stars of an
earlier novel (what can I say? I love tall, dark and handsome men!), but they
are as different as night and day and William is 100% his own man. He’s
gorgeous, cocky, irresistible, equally as talented in the bedroom as the
boardroom. And he’s chauffeured around Chicago looking devastatingly handsome
in his custom-cut Saville Row suits (which are much sexier than breeches and a
waistcoat, yes?). That’s fresh to me!
Sorcha Grace is an adventurous eater, beach lover, and
author of scorching contemporary erotic romance. She is also the nom de plume
of a nationally bestselling author who publishes in another romance genre.
A Taste of You the first
installment of the The Epicurean series, starts the romantic journey of food
photographer Catherine Kelly and billionaire gourmand William Lambourne III.
