Stuck alone on an outpost in space, Zoe has only her computer for company.  Although Rupert's AI program is enough for conversation, Zoe longs for the touch of another human.  When her company sends her a sex bot for Christmas, she's both shocked and relieved.  Finally she will have someone else for comfort and intimacy, even if Sam is an AI bot.  But spending time in bed with Sam is making Rupert act jealous, and she doesn't know why.  He's just an AI program, right?  But jealousy will have to be put aside, because when a group of pirates infects her system with a nasty virus, Zoe must race to contain the damage before both Rupert and Sam are affected.  And when something goes horribly wrong, Zoe will be forced to make an unthinkable choice.

This was a short Christmas story about a woman, a sex bot, and an AI program.  Zoe is brilliant with computers and has tweaked Rupert's AI to make him more than a machine.  Just how much more, even Zoe doesn't realize.  When Sam shows up, she's thrilled to have a chance at intimacy again, but wonders why she's not happier about it.  It's a great story with a lot of emotions and depth of feelings you wouldn't expect to find, considering two of the three characters aren't human.  Christine d'Abo really emotionally sucks you into the story, and allows you to connect to the characters on a level I don't see very often.  Great book.
