When a person dies, some go to Heaven, some go to Hell, and some are given a second chance.  For David, he's one of the lucky ones, given a second chance to redeem his soul.  But after sixty years of seeing people die in the grizzliest of ways, he's learned to turn off his emotions just to get through the day.  It's business as usual until he meets his new neighbor, Sarah.  She's everything he's not--vibrant, full of life, and unwilling to believe anything that can't be proven by science and reason.  Despite all that, he can't stop thinking about her, and how well they get along.  And it's not only the scorching passion they share, but the conversations and companionship as well.  Going against protocol, he tells her everything about him, and is shocked that she accepts it.  But Fate isn't a kind mistress, and he will soon be faced with a choice that impacts not only him, but the whole world as well.

This book deals with the idea that love can save our souls, and redemption can be earned if we are willing to sacrifice for it.  It's about two people who couldn't be more different thrown together by Fate, yet are somehow drawn to each other.  David is a tortured soul, serving as a Reaper for Death to atone for past sins.  Sarah is a scientist, confident in her black and white world.  Sarah does a lot of growing in this book, as she struggles to come to terms with her ideals falling down around her ears.  David must come to terms with his past and himself if he wants any chance of happiness with Sarah.  It's a great love story, and a great start to a new series.  Can't wait to see where the series goes next.
