Tell us about your new/upcoming
release Last Vamp Standing?
Tortured by demonic voices,
Dante's soul is as black as they come. But when he meets Ariana—an innocent
vampire fighting demons of her own—he second-guesses everything he's ever known
about sacrifice, passion, and soul-scorching love.
Before Dante wages war
against Crimson Bay's greatest threat, he must make a choice: love Ariana the
way she deserves, risking her life in the process—or fight to protect her,
unleashing the monster he's determined to bury.
What was the hardest part of
writing your book?
The hardest part for me was doing
justice to the characters and the world I’d already created. Each of the
couples from the earlier books in the Vampires of Crimson Bay series
(InterVamption and Vamped Up), make appearances in Last Vamp Standing. I made
tons of notes to make sure I wouldn’t forget the path or quirky trait of one of
the earlier characters.
Can you tell us what you have in
the works we will see in the future?
I have two novellas in my erotic
paranormal romance “Isle of Feralon” series coming out next year from Harlequin
Cravings. (Claimed by Desire released May 1, 2012 and Forbidden by Fate
released July 1. The two additional novellas don’t have release dates yet.) I
also have a new paranormal romance/urban fantasy series in the works, but
you’ll have to stay tuned for announcements on that.
If I was a first time reader of
your books, which one would you recommend I start with and why?
I’d start with InterVamption. The
Vampires of Crimson Bay series reads more like a trilogy than a series in the
sense that there is an overarching villain and characters who have journeys
that span all three books. While you can definitely pick up Last Vamp Standing
and enjoy the read, you’d probably get more out of the book if you start from
the beginning.
What else would you like readers to
know about you or your work?
That I put myself in all of it. If
there’s something I love to eat or drink, it’s there. If there’s a place I
dream of visiting, it’s there, too. Hopes, fears, inner conflicts, I’m in there
somewhere or have been at some point in my life. Writing is not something that
comes effortlessly to me. I have to work extremely hard to make my stories come
to life…so I add a pinch of me to the story, hoping my hopes and dreams breathe
life into the words.
What books or authors have most influenced your life?
Rebecca by Daphne duMaurier has
influenced my life the most. The moment I started reading that book, I knew I
was lost. I still get lost in duMaurier’s Manderley, and I’ve visited there
five times already. (Maybe I should read it a sixth time…it’s been awhile.)
When you have some down time what
would we find you doing?
When I’m not writing or taking care
of my family (I’ve got two little ones and a husband who keep me pretty busy),
I love to watch shameless reality television. Yup, I’m one of those. I also
love going to the movies and discovering fabulous hole-in-the-wall restaurants,
though I don’t get to do those things as often as I’d like.
What advice would you give to an
aspiring author?
Don’t quit. The business is
difficult and rejection gets thrown at you at every turn. Whatever you do,
don’t stop. Keep writing. It’s easy to think that you’re the only writer who
has it tough, but that’s not the case. Writing is hard, no matter which way you
slice it. Some just hide the pain better than others. ;)
What’s a guilty pleasure you have?
Mocha Frappuccinos. I’ve got a
serious soft spot for chocolately-goodness.
Who’s more fun, bad boys or perfect
gentlemen and why?
Can I say a mixture of both? I
think a gentleman without a touch of attitude could get boring over time, but a
bad boy with no regard for how to truly treat a lady wouldn’t make for a good
catch either. The man has got to know when to be naughty and when to be nice.
If you came with a warning label,
what would it say?
Warning: Does not think before
speaking.

Author Bio:
Kristin Miller has had a passion
for language and literature her whole life. Born and raised in
Small Town USA, she often made up stories about faraway places and edge-of-your-seat
adventures.
After graduating from Humboldt
State University with a degree in psychology, Kristin realized
there is no scarier place than the
warped human psyche. Wanting to combine her love of writing
with her desire to paint twisted
villains, Kristin wound up in the unlikeliest of places—the classroom.
She taught high school and middle
school English before giving in to the desire to create her own world, where villains can
be sympathetic and heroes can be devilishly good.
She is represented by Nalini
Akolekar of Spencerhill Associates Ltd. and writes dark paranormal
romances and toe curling romantic
suspense.
