As a former illegal love-bot, Shani is determined to rescue and free other love-bots.  Problem is, snagging one is nearly impossible.  When her teams learns a love-bot will be at a public BDSM club, she races to save him.  When she gets there, she finds Royce doesn't want to be rescued, and is happy where he is.  Not giving him a choice, she kidnapps him and blocks his communication with his employers.  In doing so, however, she kicks in Royce's failsafes, which cause him unimaginable pain.  The only way to find relief is by repeated orgasm.  Because of her dark past, Shani has vowed to never have sex again.  But how can she say no to Royce when he's in such pain?

As the two journey to Shani's team, Royce begins to realize how sweet freedom really is.  He's also starting to see his prickly captor in a new light.  With his employers bearing down on them, though, can he truly be free?

In this world, the dead are reanimated and given hardware and upgrades.  Some are used as workers, and some as prostitutes.  Shani spends most of the book fighting the demons of her past, and has a hard time opening up to Royce because of what was done to her.  She's spent years trying to save other love-bots.  Royce doesn't think freedom's so great until he gets a taste of it.  The two both have issues to work through, but the spark of attraction is definitely there.
