Emily Boman was not expecting her hero to be former English
student, Derek Miller. Derek had become a publisher author and uber famous rubbing
elbows with the rich and famous. As he scooped her up off the icy sidewalk,
Emily had realized that Derek was no longer her teenage student, but a handsome
young man with chocolate skin, broad shoulders and athletic build. Seeing him
stirred something deep within Emily that she had buried deep never thinking
those feelings would see light of day.
Derek revealed that he was moving home to be closer to his
family and give back to his community by tutoring the disadvantaged youth.
Emily had always admired that about him. However, she was not expecting him to
invite her to dinner and show her his newly renovated home. She found him
beautiful and intelligent, but could she get past the age difference and the
fact he was a former student. Emily still found herself excited about spending
an evening alone with Derek. She struggles with self confidence, but Derek
likes her round curves and sweater sets.
I loved that this story encompassed many hurdles that an
interracial relationship encounter and an age difference that could crack the
strongest of foundations. Their desire to be together was like a smoldering
fire awaiting a large dose of oxygen to combust.
