Interview with Ellora's Cave author India Masters

Today we have with us Ellora's Cave author India Masters. India, thanks so much for joining us today. Let's start by asking you what made you decide to submit to Ellora's Cave.

What made you decide to write erotica?

LOL...you can blame that on my pal, Sheri Livingston. I joined a writing group she moderated and discovered romanic erotica.

I never knew the genre existed but I knew I didn't really care much for the hot stuff taking place behind closed doors. I subbed to EC because of their reputation as one of the best romantica publishers around.

How long did it take you from starting to write to becoming a published author?

I wrote my first romantic erotica book in 2007, with Loose Id, and it didn't take too long after that for it to be accepted. I waited for three years before submitting to Ellora's Cave because I wanted to be sure my writing was strong enough before I tried for them. Luckily, it paid off.

What would we catch you doing in your spare time?

Reading. I'm a voracious reader. And researching for the next idea that pops into my head. I spend hours on the internet researching, printing out stuff for files on various topics. Honestly, I should buy stock in HP and Brother for all the printing I do.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

I would say, first and foremost, keep writing. Write something every day, even if you're not motivated and what you write sucks that day. The next thing is, find a critique group so you can get unbiased opinions on your work. I learned so much from the group I belonged to. Sheri Livingston took me under her wing and taught me the nuances of point of view, as well as other aspects of the craft. Then read as much as you can about the craft itself. The internet is a huge source for writing tips, articles on pov, dialogue, world building, etc.

Where can we go to learn more about you and your books?

I have several books published with Loose Id, and I have a web site that my wonderful sister built and maintains for me at http://www.india-masters.com/. I also have a blog at Blogger, though I admit I'm a huge slacker when it comes to blogging.

India, thanks so much for joining us today. We wish you the best of luck in your writing career.
