Paranormal Romance

The war between the Fire and Lightning dragons against the Steel dragons has been raging for five long years now.  Families have been torn apart and lands ravaged, yet all know the turning point to the war is close at hand.  When Rhona the Fearless is tasked with a dangerous mission, she doesn't hesitate to accept.  What she doesn't count on is having Vigholf the Abhorrent tag along.  For five years she's fought beside the Lightning, and for five years her respect and attraction for him has grown, though she'd rather die than admit it.

As their mission progresses, the stakes are raised, and before they know it the end to the war is within sight.  They only have to stay alive long enough to see it.

This book started out very dark, mostly because they've been at war for five years.  We can see the toll it's taken on all the characters we've grown to love, and our hearts break for them.  Yet hope is offered, and it's up to Rhona and Vigholf to seize it and turn the tides of the war into their favor.

While each book focuses on a different couple, it also shows everyone else we've met.  The names can get a bit confusing if you don't read the series in one shot, due to the sheer number of people and dragons introduced over the course of the series.  When I read this book, I thought, "This is a saga," and it is.  The series is one continuous story that spans multiple books, and it's so easy to fall in love with the story and the characters.  G.A. Aiken is in my top three favorite authors ever, and for someone who owns hundreds of books, that's saying something.
