Paranormal Fantasy

There have been rumors of illegal gladiatorial battles taking place for years, but Kate has always discounted them, having better things to do with her time.  When a close friend of hers winds up near death, she traces the trail back to a group participating in the battles.  Somehow, it's all connected, and it's up to her to figure out how.  Gathering a team of shifters together, Kate must enter The Games in order to get close enough to strike out at the enemy.

But there are secret enemies hiding in the wings, waiting for a chance to take Kate down.  As if that wasn't bad enough, she must somehow keep her heritage from being know, because if she's exposed, everyone she loves will die.

These books just get better and better.  In this book, the characters and world have already been firmly established, so we're given a deeper glimpse into the background and personalities of the main characters.  Kate has a painful past, one she doesn't want anyone to know about for fear of endangering them.  She may not have a choice in the matter when one of her shifter friends is found nearly beaten to death.  The ones who did it participate in The Games, an illegal gladiatorial death match.  Going undercover, she's determined to find out who hurt her friend and make them pay, even if the cost is her own life.  But past enemies she thought she'd safely hidden from resurface, wanting nothing more than to see her dead.  The enemy list is growing against her, but she manages to wade in and do what needs to be done without hesitation.  Kate truly is a kick-ass heroine, and I for one can't wait to see what she does next.
