Cassie Palmer #2
by: Karen Chance
$7.99 mass market paperback
Released: April 2007
Although she didn't want it, she's been granted with powers that put her in the running to be the Pythia, the world's chief clairvoyant. Problem is, she's now got a bull's eye painted on her back that's causing every mage and vampire in town to gun for her, hoping to control her and by extension, the power.
To make matters worse, she found out a certain sexy vampire senator has put a geis on her, which binds them together. That in itself wouldn't be life shattering, but the spell has managed to mutate, making it next to impossible to concentrate when he's not around.
All she has to do is keep her fellow Pythia competitor from killing her, find a way to break the geis before she goes insane, and oh yeah, try and keep everyone else from brainwashing her into becoming their puppet.
All in a day's work.
This book is even better than the first. Cassie's story continues, and it's even crazier and dangerous than ever. Mircea has placed a geis on Cassie, but it backfires and makes both of them crazy with lust when they're in the same room together. She's trying to keep her distance from him, pissed that he would cast such a dangerous spell on her without her knowing. She wants to find the counterspell, but it will have to wait. Despite her protests, she's in the running to be the Pythia, but everyone else wants the power, and isn't afraid to hurt her to obtain it.
Cassie is such a compelling character because she's learned to roll with the punches, and somehow manages to keep her head when the worst is going down. I loved seeing Pritkin develop more, and he's written so well I can easily visualize his facial expressions when he speaks. This series rocks. Now on to book 3.
