Every year, the dragon requires a virgin sacrifice from the local village as payment for not destroying them.  Because of the villagers' mistrust of her, Rowena is the lucky girl picked this year.  As she stands there tied to the post, she hopes the dragon will at least give her a painless death.

When the dragon shows up, though, it's not a fiery death he delivers, but rather sexual rapture the likes of which she's never known.  When she's informed she's the dragon's mate, she's not sure whether to embrace it with open arms or run screaming into the night.

Virid is thrilled to finally find the one woman he can spend his life with, and as such doesn't understand why Rowena is torn between staying and running away.  Sure, she misses her family, but that's no reason to try and escape.  Guess he'll have to punish her with his tongue, and he knows just where to start on her luscious body...

This book is about a woman who's sacrificed to a dragon and ends up developing feelings for him.  But as much as the dragon might mean to her, she finds herself missing her family more and more each day.  Plus there's a dark family secret Rowena holds that could spell disaster for her family if anyone ever found out.  This book had a good plot, intrigue, all the emotions you'd expect while reading a romance.  But despite all that, I just couldn't get into the story.  I had a hard time with Rowena's behavior and thoughts throughout the book.  It just didn't seem like she reacted the way you'd expect.  I can't elaborate because I don't want to give the book away.  I just couldn't get into it, despite it being well written (editorially speaking).  However, those of you who like dragon shifter stories might find it more enjoyable than I.
