In a world where aliens are now legal citizens, Mia works for the Alien Investigation and Removal Unit, and her job is to keep the city safe from the aliens who harm earthlings. She's tough as nails and one of the best at her job. Being the only female member, she has to be. But all that changes when she's assigned to work a case, and the suspect is an alien, one with a scorching gaze and a body to die for. When her partner is nearly killed, this alien holds the power to heal her partner. But his help comes at a price...a price she might not be willing to pay.

Kyrin's sister has been locked up after being falsely accused of murder. He singles Mia out, thinking she can help him save his sister. After kidnapping Mia, he's drawn to her on a level he can't understand, but knows will only end in disaster. For Mia's bosses are determined to pin a murder charge on him, which will result in a death sentence. His only hope lies in convincing Mia to help him. Or maybe strip off her clothes, first...

But passion will have to be put on hold, for there's a dark power rising up, intent on devouring everything in its path. It's got a grudge against Mia, and won't rest until she's dead. As Kyrin and Mia race against time to stop the madman before more innocent lives are lost, they must confront their feelings for each other. For it's forbidden to be with an alien, and Mia is forced to choose between her duty...and the alien she's come to love.

I've been putting off reading this series, and after reading it...I don't know what I was thinking. This book sucked me in from the first page and wouldn't let me go. I wouldn't even let myself write this review until I'd finished the others in the series. Anything with aliens in it, I'm there. The world Gena Showalter has woven is a new spin on a old classic.

In her world, there are hundreds of alien breeds that live and work among us. It wasn't that easy, though. A war between humans and aliens nearly destroyed Earth, turning it into a near-inhospitable place, where water is scare, and chocolate is (gulp) nearly extinct. The Alien Investigation and Removal Unit keeps the bad aliens from preying on the humans, and kills those that step over the line.

This series rocks, and anything Gena Showalter writes is an automatic read for me.
